Hand Broom Making
Brooms are ancient. Brooms are universal. Brooms hold story and weave together the craft of humans and plants.
Whether you're sweeping the dust boards, shooing away cobwebs, cleansing negative energy, or protecting the hearth – brooms are used both symbolically and functionally. Now, creating a broom from natural materials adds another element…
In this workshop, we will learn how to process broom corn – using the tassels for bristles – into an artisanal broom. Participants will learn broom-tying techniques and ways of assembling a handbroom that resembles a fanned turkey wing. All of your broom making materials will be provided.
This is an opportunity to gather, explore, weave with intention, and play with natural corn broom fiber. Spin with story, create with your hands, and connect in circle with others through the natural and magical ways of broom making.
